Project Summary: Site-Specific Performance Support
Much of the training at LBNL is required only once with some exceptions for periodic refreshers. The rate at which lab staff receive reminders is not enough to reinforce learning and application of safe practices on a day-to-day basis.
In order to provide ongoing training without increasing the rate of required training, we launched a program to embed learning opportunities, “Site Specific Performance Support” at the locations where staff will need performance support the most.

Gas Safety Job Aids
These mobile-ready job aids are intended to be accessed when lab staff need a reminder to complete tasks that they don’t perform in an ongoing basis. QR code stickers or pamphlets will be placed above gas canister storage areas. The assumption is that staff will use mobile devices to access the job aids.
These job aids are Storyline-based interactives that leverage existing video demonstrations. Using existing video reduced development time for this project.

Laboratory and Technical Safety Surveys Communication
The LATSS video is produced for EHS Communications with the goal of educating general laboratory staff about an upcoming safety survey program.
The video features an interview-style, direct to camera address by the program owner, and dramatized footage that shows what the process will look like.

Radiation Buffer Area posters for using Radiation Monitors
Radiation Buffer Area posters are intended for researchers who must perform hand-and-foot frisks for radioactive contamination before exiting a lab.
The previous instructional document was a multipage, text-heavy document that needed to be handled in order to be used. The document is at risk of contamination if handled so it wouldn’t be useful for very long.
The solution was to design posters that researchers could easily reference when performing hand-and-foot frisks.

Fall Protection Harness Fit
This fall protection harness fit guide is provided for every facilities worker that uses an LBNL-issued harness. The handout identifies guidelines for proper fit.
This ensures that facilities workers continue to receive ongoing performance support when in the field.

Interactive Job Aid Accessed by QR Code
If handouts are misplaced, facilities workers can access an interactive fit guide using their mobile devices. Content is delivered in text, images, and audio to match the user’s preference.
QR codes can be affixed to the harness itself or to the duffle bag in which the harness is distributed.
