Project Summary: Intellectual Property Office
A redesign of a PowerPoint-based training into an interactive informational module that clarified and communicated the benefits of working with the Intellectual Property Office at Berkeley Lab. Incorporated two case studies that illustrated the IP process and detailed the benefits of working with the IPO.

Performance Gap
Although researchers and scientists are required to disclose all inventions and software developed at the Lab to the Intellectual Property Office, disclosures had been decreasing.
Reasons for the decrease in disclosures included:
- Misunderstandings about the tech transfer process
- Lack of awareness of when and what to disclose
- Fear of losing ownership of research and IP
Training Solution
To design, develop, and implement online training that achieves the following:
- Describes the process for working with IPO for inventions and software
- Explains the value that the tech transfer process brings to the Lab and to researchers
- Dispels common misconceptions about the tech transfer process
- Highlights successes that were due to collaboration with the IP Office.

- Leveraged existing videos to dispel misunderstanding of the IP process
- Provided a call-to-action that funneled learners to engage with the IP Office
